Artist Statement: My work examines various facets of womanhood through the use of the female form, personal images, and animals. Ideas of growing up and losing innocence in particular are deeply engraved in each piece I create. Whether the medium be painting, drawing, photography, or printmaking, these ideas are prominent. I weave imagery of childlike wonder with the dark cynicism that creeps in as we grow into adulthood. My art defines a line between the tribulations of growing up and hope for a better future.

I am an ever changing being; however so much holds me hostage, and the only way to attempt to let go is to create. My use of vibrant colors such as radiant red, naples yellow, quinacridone magenta, and radiant turquoise in my paintings allows me to create such rich and luminous skin tones shown in the female figures I choose to depict. This use of arbitrary color adds to the whimsy reminiscent in children’s stories which juxtaposes the dark subject matter sometimes displayed.

The work I create is how I express my emotions, and that is why I like to take a voyeuristic approach with my art. This is how I am being seen, and there is an interpersonal connection to be made with those around me.
