27th August 2020 (The day of the Karachi floods)

Alizeh Arshad, Pakistan

The sky has cracked open,
Like a fissure from which
Centuries of pent up emotion gushed.
Do not try to feign innocence.
You never quite listen, do you?
Stand up and face the wrath of nature.
She has been facing yours for far too long.

Look at the people around you.
These are your people.
Perhaps you will finally see past
The facade you have created for them
And see their hearts have been crushed
By all the burdens they must carry every day.
I see them everyday, but today?
Today is different.
I have seen more grief than I care to admit.
I have never seen grief like this.

The heavens opened up as if to say
We have been silent for far too long.
Look at us. Notice us.
Fear us.
Your incompetence is screaming
So we will scream louder.
We have been silent for far too long.
Never again.

Alizeh is definitely the right person to come to for anything sci-fi or fantasy related. A dreamer, poet and definitely an over thinker, you can probably find her binge watching her favourite shows or stargazing outside.
