Aster Lit: Tesserae

Issue 15—Winter 2026

Milo Coleman, United States

Untitled 4

Photo from an ongoing series of work entitled Anew Spring where I’ve shot only on expired kodachrome with forced blue light-leaks. The work attempts to document my home in urban Arizona as it slowly falls apart in the wake of a global pandemic. It’s incredibly personal but quite common in my state; as cost of living rises, familial tensions do as well—this body begins to dissect that with what many would see as ruined materials: a mold filled camera passed through generations, film that furls and oozes when used in any way, a splitzer I had made myself with cardboard and some electrical tape. Tesserae because not only is it a sect of work, but this exact picture, untitled 4, is a sect of my childhood home before leaving it forever due to interpersonal matters—it’s a piece of my life now gone.
