Aster Lit: Meridian
Issue 14—Fall 2025
Maya Todorov, United States
Maestro
This piece was painted with acrylic on canvas. My intention was to place the conductor at the focal point, his baton gleaming the brightest shade of the painting, as if he were spotlighted. The musicians around him also point their bows upward to convey a sense of unity. Like the sun reaching its highest point at midday, the orchestra arrives at its apex, bows high as if swelling with the music. The conductor’s baton is raised, signifying the intensity of the score’s climax, as he is overwhelmed by the energy of the performance.
